Marguerite Yourcenar - Alchemy of Landscape
The first woman admitted to the French Academy, Marguerite Yourcenar is less known as a pioneer of ecology. More than a simple motif, the landscape was a true source of inspiration for the writer.
The Flanders of her childhood served as the backdrop for her "Archives of the North." Her love for Flemish painting and the landscapes painted by Brueghel and Bosch was at the heart of "The Abyss." From Mount Desert Island in the United States, where she lived for over 50 years, she never ceased to affirm her commitment to the protection of nature and the living world.
