Victor Hugo (1802-1885) has become the new reference point for political figures whenever they want to evoke the republican nation: the one that reconciles the bourgeoisie and the people, property and labor, industry and the arts, France and Europe…
His vision was of liberty leading the people, and then of the republic enlightening the people. The aim of this film is to show how Hugo came to personify the Republic, through a retrospective of his political and literary career.
